Pritchard Receives ICCTA Outstanding Legislator Award
Springfield , IL…State Representative Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley) and Senator Ed Maloney (D-Chicago) were recently recognized as the Outstanding Legislators for 2010 by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA). The ICCTA is very selective in honoring members of the Illinois General Assembly based on their continuing support and advocacy for the Illinois community college system.
“It is a great honor to be chosen for this award by the ICCTA,” said Pritchard. “I believe strongly in the value of the community college system as a stepping stone to a four-year degree, for adult education and workforce development. Community colleges offer high quality education at affordable prices, and are close to the student's home. Students often work while they attend college.” In accepting the award, he challenged community colleges to continue evolving their instruction and programs to meet the needs of students and employers, and to help rebuild the Illinois economy.
Last year, Pritchard introduced and passed HB 336 to ensure that surrounding government agencies and school districts are included in inter-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional campus violence prevention plans. He also championed HB 4189, legislation that would clarify that community college districts are units of local government and not state agencies under the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. He serves as Republican Spokesperson on the House Higher Education Committee. Several members of the Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees and KC President Tom Choice were present at the award ceremony in Springfield.
